The Rashtrakuta Empire

The Rashtrakuta Empire was a royal dynasty that ruled in India from the 8th to the 10th century CE. The empire was founded by Dantidurga, who established his capital at Manyakheta (present-day Malkhed in Karnataka state) and expanded his territory through military conquests. The Rashtrakutas were known for their patronage of the arts and architecture, and their reign saw the construction of many notable temples and architectural complexes, such as the Kailasa temple in Ellora. The empire reached its peak under the rule of Emperor Amoghavarsha I, who is considered one of the greatest rulers of the Rashtrakuta dynasty. The empire declined in the 10th century CE and was eventually replaced by the Western Chalukya Empire.
