Mahendravarman 1 was a king of the Pallava dynasty in South India, who ruled during the 7th century AD. He was known for his military campaigns and for his patronage of the arts and literature. He was also a skilled architect and engineer, and several notable temples and rock-cut cave shrines were built during his reign, including the Shore Temple in Mahabalipuram. He is also credited with the construction of the Kailasanatha Temple in Kanchipuram, which is considered one of the greatest examples of Pallava architecture.
