Chhatrapati Shivaji was a Maratha warrior king and the founder of the Maratha Empire in western India in the 17th century. He is considered to be one of the greatest warriors of his time and a pioneer of guerrilla warfare tactics. He established a competent and progressive civil rule with the help of well-structured administrative organizations. His reign is credited for the major expansion and development of Maratha power in India. He was also a patron of several arts and sciences, he built a number of forts and towers and created a navy. He is known for his progressive and secular rule and is still celebrated as a hero in India.
